Hi, new here. I have a '50 4100 chassis cab..used to be a small fire brush truck. Has only like 2500 miles! I built a flatbed for it. I would like to swap out the rearend..or whatever you guys think. It's geared soon low. Would like to drive it at highway speeds. Thoughts? Was thinking of putting airbags on it as well to improve the ride. It's a dually. Thoughts on different axles? Wheels? Thanks

Welcome, I am sure you will get several suggestions from guys who have done modifications to increase highway speeds. Here is one link I found just during a site search that might get you started with some ideas. https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthread...p/Search/true/rear-axle-swap#Post1128284

Pretty sure I have seen others in the past.

A 2nd Welcome to Stovebolt from me! You might want to look at posts like this one by TUTS 59 on his Task Force 1959 4100 axle upgrades. It is a later truck, but maybe will help stir up the thought juices to help you find a solution to what you would like to see out of your truck. Don't forget upgrades to braking and steering to go along with that increase in speed! You can get there, just do it safely. smile
