Phat, you asked for a photo of the new welder, here it is. You will recall the thread I started in the Paint and Body forum (that gave the impetus to start this forum). I shopped around, looked through the catalogs and finally took Ken's excellent advice to forgo the catalogs and buy local, even it were a little more expensive -- to keep the money local and to start a relationship with the local welding supply shop.

What great advice. Since getting the Hobart Champ 2060 welder/generator, I've been into all sorts of welding projects (my welding is improving everyday!) and the guys at the welding shop are super -- they invited me back every Saturday for MIG/TIG welding lessons (no charge). Good marketing ploy, because once I see how much betterer them fancy welders work, I may end up with one of them, too....Plus, it's just fun to stop in there and shoot the manure.

I really like this welder, although even with tiny rods, I'm still burning through sheet metal. Other than that, it's doing everything I need around the shop, farm and development that Peggy is the manager of (and you thought all she did was futz with this web site!). Excellent piece of gear. You'll notice that I added some castor wheels to the shipping pallet it came bolted to (why build something when that would work?) because this thing is HEAVY (about 300 lbs). It has a key start, too (WOO HOO!!!!). Hey, I can still do the he-man pullstart stuff with the chain saw...)

NICE! i need to build something like that to cart mine around too cause it's pretty heavy. i could use some free lessons also!

OK John, spill the beans. How much does one of those little toys cost. I'll see how much butter I can smear around so Cindy will let me get one. I would really like to know.

Oly, I was out the door for $1,725.00 I threw in an auto darkening helmet, new slag hammer and a bunch of rods to make it an even $1,900.
I've been saving box tops for awhile... and doing plenty of Honey-do's, too. Actually, this little baby let me whack out a few Honey-do's, believe it or not

John thats nice and compact.I have not tried that one yet.Key start!!!!!! Your gettin soft in your ah.........golden age! LMAO. Another trick for the welder is get a shopping cart(i did not say steal one)and mount the weldor on the botom and move the cage up that way you put all your cable and othet stuff in it.Also can weld a chan to it so you can load it with the bucket loader.

Quite the set-up John. But my boss says that the 45 and her 55 1st "are" going to Montana first. I'll just keep turning over leaves like a "Banty Hen"- gotta be a big juicy worm there someplace. If you run outta stuff to "practice" on bring it over here- I have plenty to keep you busy. LOL

Yea John you could build the old rust collector of fine art a couple of tow bars. Only way those field trucks are gonna see 50 miles from his scrap yard.
