Get a couple bicycle boxes, open them up and lay them down. Plenty of cardboard to protect the bed.

Drove Ol' Roy to a job this morning. In town through nice tree-lined neighborhoods. By the afternoon it was about 85°, so I had to put the AC on high (both vents open) for the drive home.

I never know whether stuff like this goes in the Driving Report or the Truck as a Truck thread. They're usually about the same thing with me.
Yesterday I had to drive out to the North Georgia hinterlands and help my mom uncover her swimming pool for the summer and pressure wash the concrete pool deck. As long as I'm driving out there, I figured I might as well haul a load of firewood for next winter. I have an unlimited supply and no fireplace.
I also had to fix a couple tires on her tractor that keep going flat.
Anyway, there happened to be a cruise-in sort of close-by that a couple of friends from my Cadillac club were going to. After I was finished doing chores at my mom's house, I headed up to the Riverstone Cruise. As luck would have it, a friend of one of the Cad guys drove his 54/55 Chevy 3100.
I hung out there till late evening, had dinner at a nice Italian place with my friend, Doug, then headed back home. That's Doug's '66 Eldorado in front of me.
By the time I got back to the A-T-L it was getting dark. All totaled, it was about 130 miles round trip.
Thanks to Bartamos' help a couple years ago, I can drive with confidence at night. The 6v headlights are as bright as any modern car.

Driving your "Cowboy Cadillac" I see! Good on ya! I'm going to have a "working truck" on the road soon. The 51 GMC 3 ton with the 14 foot flatbed I bought from Red 63 is going to get repurposed as a car hauler for the replica dirt track race car I'm building- - - -as close a clone as I can make of Dad's 3 window coupe from the early 1950s! And Jerry is going to start a DITY Gallery story about the 3-ton so we all can follow that story. I guess if he stays still long enough.

Your first two images are TAAT; second is more DR - good thing you had the truck in most of that second set. Speaking of Gallery stories ... waiting on Ol' Roy's. He's got a very interesting and unusual story, too.

I'm a firm believer in securing a load of any kind. Also, on the way home, there was no firewood to hold it in place so I needed to bring my straps.

Had to pick up and deliver a new battery powered lawn mower for my mom last week.
In case anybody cares, the battery mower cuts as well or better than the gas version. It has more torque and doesn't bog in tall (2-3 ft), thick grass. It also weighs a lot less. I was skeptical about it's ability to do the job but not any more.

25 bags of mulch yesterday for my mother-in-law and 25 more for myself today. I could probably purchase bulk cheaper, but then I’d have to shovel into lawn cart or wheelbarrow and out around trees. Might even have to load truck by hand if it was free somewhere. Always rides better with a load in back, but likes to drink the gasoline.

That's the same reason I buy in bags. easier to spread. And yes it rides better with a load in the bed.

Drove Ol' Roy to work today and stopped by Sam's Club to tank up and get some gas for lawn equipment - $2.99/gal. They happened to have a close out deal on 10w-40 motor oil for $21/case. That's $1.75 per quart! Can't beat that with a stick.
I normally use 15w-40 or 20w-50 but something around here is bound to use it. I forgot to take pictures on the road or at any of the loading docks so you'll have to settle for pictures at home with his room mate, Big Red.

Hauled some brush today with the '47, and a couple weeks ago hauled some with the '59. I didn't take any pictures either, but there are pics in the gallery listings for both trucks that I took one other time doing the same job.
What are the parameters of the question? I use mine all the time for errands and hauling lawn and garden items and have from the very begining of my ownership, 43 years ago.

Ron, the whole point to this thread is to share and show stories and pictures about folks using their trucks as they were meant to be. Since that is a very wide lane, lots of latitude to showcase just about any use of a truck as a truck stuff! Yes that includes daily drivers too! It gives everyone a chance to share and enjoy!
Pictures are much encouraged, but not always available. Before or after shots work just fine! Keep on posting folks!!! We do love them pictures!

This is cool. I saw your earlier posts of the video. I like this one best. One of the first ones jolted me when I hard the BLAM as the loader looked about done dropping the material. Then I realized he may have been just jerking his bucket for the last few particles. Nice video!

I'm impressed by the lack of movement in the rear suspension.

A couple days ago I got a PM from a fellow 'bolter who saw me chugging down the interstate. He looked up pics of Ol' Roy on the site to confirm it was me.
Yes, I drive this wreck all over the place.
This week I'm building a deck here in town. Notice the beautiful tree lined streets of Atlanta. They don't call this town "The City in the Forest" for nothing.

Its been a busy season for the truck. Haven't gone a week without hauling something. Did around 100 ton of river rock in early February, 70 cubic yards of mulch and Pete in April, another 40 ton of #53 limestone in June, and trips too numerous to mention for lumber, steel, and all manner of building materials for two separate salvage projects, a barn overhaul, and an all new livestock barn here on our farm that I broke ground on in July.
I am continuing to play with the HEI and timing to get her really dialed in. Seems what she likes best running empty is sub-par when under load and vice versa, but Ill get it eventually. A few photos of the barn build process and some of her loads. The truck has easily clocked 5000 miles this year so far for all of this and aside from tinkering with the timing, runs like a well maintained sewing machine. I couldn't be happier with any other truck out there. Feels good to keep her working like she was born to do.
I bet the load helps it steer easier also, even standing still. I added ps to my ‘57 3200 because it was crazy to crank out of a parking stall. I loaded mine with a variety of tools to help my son and his contractor. Drove about 110 miles each way. I thought the steering was getting a little sloppy, similar to before a few tweaks, then I realized the nuts fell off stud end of steering stabilizer shock I personally installed about 8 years ago.

The 1957 Brewster Green is the original color, the interior has not been repainted and is the light grey with dull black top of dash. The exterior has had a least one repaint and some doner sheet metal, I can see orange or red under some a couple of the panels. For a lifetime Michigan rustbelt truck, it isn't real bad. Built in Flint.

If anyone has any good ideas for tie-downs or protecting the bed besides a blanket, would love to hear them. I try not to scratch it up but I don't stress about it too much either.
Try searching “rubber truck bed mat” on the internet. Various ones available at Amazon, Home Depot, etc. I roll mine up and leave it on garage floor under front of truck. Good wheel stop guide when parking.
