As most of SOMD bolters know, the engine in my 1941 has given up (#6 rod bearings are gone and most of the crank) it was diagnosed by the one and only Jerry at the wrenchfest back in May. I finally had time to run by the Stovebolt world headquarters and pick up Charlie’s original 216 that John has so graciously allowed me to borrow to get the truck back on the road until my 216 is rebuilt. My good buddy Matt is coming up this weekend from Myrtle Beach to assist in the swap if any one local wants to stop by.

Heeeeeeyyyyyyy.....so THAT's where I left that little ladder. I've been looking for it.
Glad you got over there. I hope you found it easy to get it in the back of your truck. I'll try to stop by this weekend.

It wasn’t bad getting it loaded. I was a little concerned since I drove the tallest vehicle in own. 🤣

If I get Charlie's carburetor back in today, I'll cruise over and check on you.

A successful engine swap! I can’t thank John enough for letting me borrow Charlie’s 216 until I get mine rebuilt. A long weekend and a few more days and I’m back on the road. I had a lot of good friends volunteer their time to make this possible! We did run into a few issues along the way but nothing that couldn’t be easily resolved.
The engine got all new gaskets, thermostat, my Carter W1 was cleaned and rebuilt, rebuilt the original starter, all new ignition parts. This Stovebolt runs so good!I put about 60 miles on it the first day.
Up next will be rebuilding my original 216 into a full pressure 235.

Caught up to Kyle in traffic yesterday. Fun!!! Pulled up next to him just as the light turned, so all we could do is wave as we zoomed by him in the Volksbolt. He'd never met Peggy in person before so he can be excused for not recognizing her. We ended up leading him back to his own shop where we chatted for awhile. More Fun!! It was great to see the '41 on the road. Charlie is glad to help.
For the record, I didn't want to lend him the engine. Charlie said yes, do it. He has the final say in these matters. All I can do is salute smartly and carry out the Plan of the Day.
I don't think that's right.

I was at the Wrenchfest where I overheard the seemingly outlandish plan to "borrow an engine until I can have my worn out one rebuilt". That is not normal behavior for most people. That requires a lot of extra work to pull an engine, install a borrowed engine, pull that engine, then install the restored engine. We are not a "normal" bunch. We do work for no good reason other than to keep these gems on the road no matter if it may make no sense to a sensible man. You gotta love this bunch.
