Howdy! I'm planning on making hard lines for my canister oil filter rather than using the rubber hoses (on a 1954 235). What size/kind of tubing ought I be looking for? Thanks!
I like the copper/nickel lines, like the type that's used for brake and fuel lines. It's easier to bend than steel, and slightly more rigid than copper. Some people like to put a 360 degree "vibration loop" in both lines. Use 1/4" diameter tubing with either flare or compression fittings for a bypass filter, or 1/2" for a full flow. Jerry

Here's a thread from about 10 years ago that describes what someone used for hard lines for a 235. Look for the replies from 'Bolter "Curt B." and I think that may give you what you need. Others will most likely chime in with ideas and solutions too.
(edit: Jerry beat me to the post button - lol!)

There needs to be a restrictor somewhere in the line of about 1/8" or so. Most bypass filters have one built in. Some don't. I used 3/16" Cu/Ni brake line. Has worked well for 4000 miles. Oil pressure remains in 235 specs.
Since the flow is restricted to 1/8, then 3/16" is all that is necessary for a bypass system.
If I were to use rubber lines, I would go with the proper length of high pressure grease-gun hose. That would mimic the OEM hoses of the day.

When I'm adapting a spin-on filter setup to a bypass system, I thread one of the return line fittings for a Holley carburetor jet, and drill it out to 1/16". Unless that's done, the spin-on filter will dump almost all of the oil back into the pan and starve the engine with very low oil pressure. Jerry
