When I'm adapting a spin-on filter setup to a bypass system, I thread one of the return line fittings for a Holley carburetor jet, and drill it out to 1/16". Unless that's done, the spin-on filter will dump almost all of the oil back into the pan and starve the engine with very low oil pressure.
