Now that I have begun driving some I have a noise I think I know what it might be. Looking for a confirmation or another idea.

66c10 3.73 factory posi.

Sharp turns there is what sounds and feels like a rubbing or grinding noise. I can hear it, and feel in steering wheel. Nothing rubs on front end.

The read end was hosed when I got the truck. I paid to have gear set changed. I am wondering if this noise is the posi?

While in the air I am unable to rotate tires independently of one another which I always thought was strange.

When you re-assembled the rear axle and differential, did you add posi additive with the gear lube? If it is a clutch type posi unit it will chatter and grab when cornering if it doesn't have the posi additive.

Ditto on the additive- - - -it's needed to prevent the limited slip clutches from chattering in a turn- - - -the sharper the turn, the more likely the clutches are to shudder due to the speed difference between the axle shafts. This is true regardless of whether the limited slip system used discs or cone clutches. Yes it is possible to turn the wheels independently of each other, but it takes more torque than you can put on the wheel by hand. Some manufacturers used to publish a torque spec to check the clutch pack preload- - - -I seem to remember it being somewhere in the range of 100 ft-lbs. A torque wrench adapter was bolted to the wheel studs, and one axle was forced to turn with the other wheel on the ground.

I thought the oil I bought had the additive in it, but I am not sure two years later. It has to be the noise, it just sounds different to when I have heard a posi noise in the past.

I've never seen oil sold with the Posi Trac additive already in it, I've always gotten it in a small tube or bottle and added it to regular gear oil.

For instance- - - -

www.ebay.com/itm/321060145209?

The same stuff is available with a MOPAR or Ford label, for people who believe there's a difference. P.T. Barnum is alive and well.

After you get the additive in it drive in circles, should get better. The clutch pack will always supply some resistance on this design.
