I am trying to figure out how the rear fender brace attaches to the frame ('54 short bed). It is way too far away from the frame. Anyone have a picture of how theirs attaches?

I'd say you need to straighten the brace (which will make it longer) and bolt it to the bottom of the frame rail. The fender should flex enough to do that. The FAM (Sect 11, Sheet 18.00) shows 3100 brace to the bottom flange, and bigger trucks to the top of the frame. Not sure why there's a difference, but the part numbers for the brace are different as well.
