Hello again. I can't figure out my engine size on my recently purchased gem. It is a 1952 GMC 9430 1 ton with a dump hoist. The motor is seized solid. I would like to replace it but I am not sure what it is. The engine #xc706861 . The vin is: 3943409766 . I think that it is a 216 I have looked at some of the articles on "Tech Tips" but didn't help. Also could I replace this with a 235 as stated in the "Engine Swap 1" ? Thanx

Canadian GMCs especially the lighter ones could be equipped with Chevrolet engines, unfortunately 53-54 is the period of time in Canada when they were changing to the full presure lubed engines. If you could post some casting numbers from the block and head we could help with identifying what you have, casting numbers are raised not stamped. Some engine blocks have the casting number behind the starter, and lastly if it has a 216 in it a 235 or 261 is swapable with only a couple of glitches to overcome, hope that helps.

Well I don't quite have the motor out yet because my hoist is tied up so I couldn't get a look deep down into the belly of the beast. I couldn't see anything in that area yet but I did find some raised numbers on the manifold side.

A 1953 instead of a 52 , now it almost feels brand new(chuckle).
I shall look tomorrow for other letters or numbers. Ward
