Drug this home 3 weeks ago. Made a deal I could not turn down. Oklahoma title included. This is a V8 truck but it has a later engine (1976) 350 with a TH350. It needs some work and I have placed my Cushman Eagle project on hold while I work on the truck.

Man, that's a good looking rig. Also minimal rust for one of these pushing 60 years old. Did you get lucky on the door sills and floorboards?

I wish I had a longbed pickup like that. I don't need a hot rod, heck I'd be happy with a 292 because I'd use it as a general purpose truck.

Door sills are fine, not so much on the floorboards rusted from the bend towards the toe kick. Repair panels delivered today.

Making progress, floor repair completed. Minor dents pulled and filled. Seat cleaned and repaired, now sitting in storage until truck is rewired. New tires this week. Next week is blocked out for getting the engine running.

Who is doing the wiring?

bartamos, mostly my son Terry B with help from yours truly. He just has to find the time. With 4 kids 14 and younger it’s a bit hard to do.

Today was a big milestone, the engine runs! Really well I might add. I rigged up a remote starter switch and a jumper wire from the power side of the HEI distributor since all the wiring is stripped out. Checked the oil and poured a bit of gas in the carburetor. Pushed the button and it roared to life almost immediately. After it ran the gas out I did it again and it fired right back up. It was then I noticed a spark jumping from a wire to the intake manifold. Darn rats had chewed the #2 plug wire in half. I changed that out and rigged a lawnmower plastic gas tank to gravity feed the carburetor. Started and ran great even idling a while. Shut it down and found the plug wire to #5 also chewed in half. So, on the first start the engine was running on 6 cylinders. All repaired now. Moving on to other stuff tomorrow morning.

There is no better sound to give you energy to move to the other areas. Congratulations. No rats here. Lizards don't chew wires.

Wiring is about 30% complete. Labeled wiring kit is a big help. Waiting on Terry B to find more time. Truck does start off the key now. New fuel tank and associated hardware installed this week. Ready to fuel up and run it for awhile provided the fuel pump works (ran it gravity feed for initial start). New tires were put on the middle of August. Ordered 15” tires from Priority Tires out of the Dallas area. Free overnight shipping and paid my local tire guy to mount them. Slow progress but it is moving forward.

Just a quick update. Wiring is in the 50% finished range. Terry B worked hard this past Saturday on the underdash stuff but ran out of time to finish. I went out this morning while it was cool and partially wired the tail lights, turn signals and brake lights. Progress is slow.

Another short update. Wiring is finished in the interior of the cab. Wiring to the tail lights complete. Waiting on grill and headlight bucket mounts before under hood wiring can be completed. Waiting on previous owner to give me access to the locked up shop to try and locate the missing pieces. Installed the seat today. Slow but steady wins the race.
Seat needs cleaning from sitting in storage.

Door seals installed. Ordered and installed a new chrome grill along with the headlight mounting flange. Previous owner allowed me to search for the old grill and we had no luck finding it hence the new one. I am about at the stopping point for the winter anyway. I’ve been neglecting my other projects. Gotta leave something for grandson to do next year.

Martin, good to see things come together and see you're still doing the good work of saving Old Iron. One of my regrets is not taking you up on your generous offer to stop by your and Mrs. Kathy's place for coffee and breakfast when my brother and I were headed to Colorado elk hunting from '98 to 2019. It was always a pedal to the metal and get there asap trip.

Ron, I helped save 2 more a couple of weeks ago. I had posted here about 2 1960 Apaches. No one here wanted them so I contacted a OKC YouTube guy and he bought both of them thus saving them from the crusher. Check out his YouTube channel “The Old truck Guy” and you will see them. Christmas Day this current project will be gifted to my 12 year old grandson. He and his dad (Terry B) can complete it. I’m going to move on to a 1957 Chevy Belair hardtop (no post) if I can find a decent one to start with.

The ‘66 has been passed along to the 12 year old grandson. Y’all should have seen his face when he opened the package containing the 3D printed’66
C-10 keychain painted to match the color on the truck.
