I’m in the process of reassembling my truck (1940 GMC) and I’m having trouble figuring out how the front of the hood is secured at the front of the truck. There doesn’t look like there’s a way to secure the hood into the front retainer.

Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks!

Neil, Below is a capture from a copy of a 1939-41 GMC Book Of Parts with the exploded view diagram of the front sheet metal and components if that may help? There are also a couple of 1940 GMC hood area pictures I snapped from a previous post by member Danielbolt from another fellow he knows that may help visualize what you are looking for. wink

Thanks for the info Dan. I figured out late last night that the front part of the hood hinge that slips into the front retainer is broken off. The info you shared confirms it as well. So I just need to replace the hinge and I should be good. I appreciate the info!

Where do you get a replacement hinge?

Jim Carter has them for $104.50 plus shipping. I saw an NOS one on eBay for $400, which I think is ridiculous.

Neil,
If your hinge is otherwise in good shape, you could just weld a pin where the original is broken off. My '37 and '42 have the same type of attachment and both have required repair, either in the front or rear.
