The dome light is not working (operated by turning the light switch knob counter clockwise) it may be the ground strip on the headlight switch is broken? I tried looking under the dash, but too tight to get a good view. Question is - how do I remove the light switch assembly from the dash; have not found any diagrams that show how this unit is attached. New bulb, and the positive lead connected at the dome light socket base is a constant 12volts. Any help would be appreciated.
Disconnect the battery. If you feel around on the switch under the dash, you will feel a button...small button, maybe 1/8". Push that in and gently pull out on your headlight switch. It should release and slide out. If not, push it back in and try again, wiggling a bit. Then you will see the trim piece that holds your switch in will unscrew and that will let you pull your switch carefully out and down so you can see it. If you look at the tip end of the image attached you'll see that screw in place.

Below is a screenshot form the 1955 Truck Shop Manual that details how to remove your light switch. Once you have the shaft removed, the round ferrule holding the switch to the dash just unscrews to release it from its hole. Don't forget to disconnect your battery before working on your switch/wiring. Don't want to let the smoke out of the wires.
Edit: Jon G beat me to the post button LOL!

If you need to disassemble and repair/restore your headlight switch a tutorial I did here is attached. It was written for the AD headlight switch but will work for yours also.
Note: it's a Word doc so it can only been downloaded to your computer and not supported by UBB to be able to see in *view* mode.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses.. A little late in the evening to start working with the above suggestions, will start in the A.M..Again, tks to all.....
The interior light is grounded thru the switch touching the back of the dash metal. It has a tiny little metal bar that touches the base of the switch when you turn it to on. If you cant feel the tiny button on the top of the switch to pull the stem out of it w/knob you can take off your knob with an allen wrench.
After removing the knob then you unscrew the nut holding the entire switch onto the dash. The switch should have enough length of wire to pull it down to look at it. Take a small bit of scotch brite and clean the back of the dash where it touches to get the ground.
