I am looking for someone to go through my distributor and make it good as nearly new. I noticed the gear on the bottom and the cam for the points has some rotational play. That does not seem right to me. Maybe there is a roll pin worn out or something. Has anybody used a shop they would care to recommend? There is nobody here at the ends of the Earth, AKA Santa Rosa, CA, where radiator shops have gone the way of the TV repair shops.

Well, you could also post in the Whole Wild West Coast Side Lot to see who may know of a place. That's what I would do. laalaa

Send it to Cardone. www.cardone.com

They rebuilt the dizzy in a '64 Galaxie for me 13 or so years ago and it's smooth as silk.

I drill the rivet hole a little bit oversize and use a piece of tough (not hard) steel like a piece of 5/32" 7018 alloy low hydrogen welding rod as an oversized drive pin.

A quick internet search turns up plenty of reliable hot rod shops. Including Model A guys like Vern Tardell. Dude even wrote a book on how to hot rod them.

Thank you everybody. I appreciate the replies. I started digging through the cache of parts I have and I found a distributor with no noticeable play like the other two that I have. For the time being, I am going to use that one and see how it goes. This is going on a donor engine that was, I am told, a runner until the day it was pulled. It is a 1947 228. I never heard it run. I want to run it and see what it is about. I have a 52 or 53 248 that had been rebuilt a short time before the truck was ruined. Maybe 10,000 miles. That may be what ultimately goes into the truck later this summer. In which case, I will use the distributor that came with that motor. I would just rather keep this original truck as original as possible.
