I noticed the gear on the bottom and the cam for the points has some rotational play. That does not seem right to me. Maybe there is a roll pin worn out or something. Has anybody used a shop they would care to recommend? There is nobody here at the ends of the Earth, AKA Santa Rosa, CA, where radiator shops have gone the way of the TV repair shops.

Dude even wrote a book on how to hot rod them. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2020 Posts: 322 Professional procrastinator | | Professional procrastinator Joined: Apr 2020 Posts: 322 | Thank you everybody. I appreciate the replies. I started digging through the cache of parts I have and I found a distributor with no noticeable play like the other two that I have. For the time being, I am going to use that one and see how it goes. This is going on a donor engine that was, I am told, a runner until the day it was pulled. It is a 1947 228. I never heard it run. I want to run it and see what it is about. I have a 52 or 53 248 that had been rebuilt a short time before the truck was ruined. Maybe 10,000 miles. That may be what ultimately goes into the truck later this summer. In which case, I will use the distributor that came with that motor. I would just rather keep this original truck as original as possible.
