What concerns me is the securing of the cover overall since it's only held in place by the two long rocker arm bolts. Would like to keep the 216 look. Thanks

If you want to go with something already confirmed to work, Jim Carter sells a kit as Part# HP110. X2 for what 1Ton tommy said about the gasket. You will get a leak if you use a standard 235 gasket with the bolt holes in the gasket.

I like to glue the gasket down tight to the cylinder head with 3M trim cement (AKA "Gorilla Snot" by NASCAR pit crews). That provides a shallow dam for the oil and prevents seeps from under the gasket. Use a cork, NOT a rubber gasket! There was once a very nice looking aftermarket reinforcement for the valve cover that can be duplicated with aluminum plate and some creative metal butchery that looks "period-correct" and makes the cover pretty much leakproof.
