Hello everyone I am new to the forum I hope I am entering my question in right place. I have a 1955 second series 3200 The engine numbers are, con4 J 13 0 ON THE BLOCK F1014B Next to the oil stick any help woud be great. thanks

mikeg1955 those ID don't seem complete for the 55 year or others around it.
Can you post a picture of the ID and where they are located to get a better visual.

I good news for you is I have a 1956 3200 and I am straight down US 23 from you near suwanee.

I used to live on US 23 in Atlanta. I'm 5 miles away from my old place now.

F1014B. Made in flint on oct 14. B automatic trans in 3100-3200 models

The more I look at it. It could be the 8 cylinder with the B
if it’s so is that a 6 cylinder or a 8?

With that half year second series going into 1956 It could be a later casting. More details from your truck please

my serrial # 3769716 and my head number is 3836848 with GM 16 below it I beliieve the engine was replaced since it a 1960.

It is a 235 inline 6 serial number 3769716 on the block. The head number is 3836848 with GM 16 below the number. thank you

There should be a stamped (not cast) letter/number combination on a machined pad immediately behind the distributor. Decoding that information should give you a good indication of the original year of manufacture and the vehicle the engine came from.

Mike, The block casting# 3769716 decodes as a 1958-62 235. The head casting# 3836848 decodes as for a 1956-62 235. Your Serial# F1014B decodes as:

F = Flint manufacturing plant

10 = October (10th month)

14 = 14th day of October

B = 1960 passenger car 235 equipped with a Powerglide transmission originally (may have a hydraulic cam/lifters)

Not unusual to find a passenger car engine migrating to a truck. If you can provide the casting date codes, found behind the starter on the side of the block, that can provide a bit more confirmation info.

con4 = Conveyor # 4 on the assembly line.

J = October

13 = 13th day of October

0 = 1960

The "B" in your engine code (it's not a serial number, that ended in 1956) was used from 1957 through 1962 in Passenger cars with the Powerglide transmission.

It's very strange that your block was cast on October 13th and machined and built on October 14th. The only way this would make sense to me is if in 1960 they skipped the letter I (eye) in the casting process making J actually September.

You know mikeg1955, if you can get a pix of some of this spots so we can tell better. I've seen a few times in here where the Stovebolt Collective uncovers stuff that made more sense to them. See if you can get a pix of these numbers.
