I'm actually rather pleased.

It has no brakes.
It will start but not idle.
Some of the tires may not be suitable for long trips. grin
The dump control levers, including the PTO control, are either not there or not marked, but the bed stayed up for a month after the last time it was raised.
It has a bumper hitch already installed!
It is difficult to determine the exact position and extent of the driver's seat. (NO SEATBELTS! What were they thinking?) I think that the driver's side airbag may already have been used, too.

Other than that, What a peach!

Oh, and my wife wants to thank all of you for enriching my life and ruining hers. wink

I love 1-ton trucks.

Everything I see is consistent with a '52 or '53 except the motor is a '54 or later, and that selenoid on the starter and the ignition resistor probably mean its been converted to 12 volt.

I've never found a sure visual clue that distinguishes a '52 from a '53.

'53 Chevrolet's had the large series designation side emblems, & no "Chevrolet" emblem. '52's had the "Chevrolet " emblems, & no series designation emblems.

Sorry for my stupidity. This is about the mutt. It has already been determined from the VIN plate and the Engine ID number that the cab is from a 1952 3/4 ton and the engine is from a 1954 1500.

If it wasn't so hot I would go out and look for the number of the frame.

There is very little original about this truck. My wife and I finally identified the seats as being from a late 1960s Volkswagen.

Isn't it cool, though? I mean it both runs (kind of) and dumps!

I forgot to mention that it was all my wife's idea. We have about 15 feet of chat between the front yard and the back yard, and she said it was getting thin.

The engine and ignition system have been converted to 12 volt.

I think that might be bigger than a one ton. Most likely a 1 1/2 or 2 ton. What size tires are on it?

I think it truly is a 1 ton.

8 lugs, small fenders, 137" wheel base, and 18" tires all say 1 ton.

Wow, I don't spend a lot of time in the big bolt section but I love that truck. I was going to buy a one ton dump 1949 a few years ago but my wife was not as understanding as yours. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks for your support, Bob. I'll try to keep the photos updated. It looks like this is the kind of project I need, although, at this point, everything that can go wrong does.

I was really happy to see that it had an alternator, even though that made me wonder about the voltage regulator, until I noticed that the alternator doesn't have any wiring attached to it. Apparently it was just used to keep the fan belt tight. Then I broke the head off the tensioning bolt trying to loosen it up to put a new fan belt on. Oh well.
