I purchased a hood latch repair kit that includes the spring, clevis pin, and cotter pin to repair my hood safety latch.

I can not determine how to assemble the spring scuh that it functions as intended.

I suspect that the two seperate legs engage the inside of the stamped steel latch while the formed shape engages something on the hood latch plate or vise-versa but I can not seem to determine a combination that would work that I can actually assemble as the spring either is not deflected or is too deflected (cannot get it that far).

Does someone have a picture of the spring installed and any insight regarding how to assemble the parts correctly?

I`m guessing the old spring is broken and/or fallen away from where its supposed
to be. So you could compare the spring kit you got and the one you need.
It can`t be that hard to figure out ,unless its the wrong spring.

I think this short 1950 Chevy Truck hood latch video may prove helpful. None of the manuals have good pictures that show this level of detail. This good or do you need more???

Guitplayer, the original spring was totally missing so I did not have anything to go by.

Gdads51, that video is great. Like the guy on the video I must have looked at that spring being installed 10 differnt ways but now that I see how it goes I think I can get it in place.

Flatblu4748, thank you for the additional picture.

It's like a cruel Chinese puzzle which you need 3 hands to do it, but 2 of those hands are in the way.

Got it installed, actually fairly easy once you know where the spring is located.
