My 1950 Chevy 1/2 ton PU driveline has beed completely rebuilt including the Huck brakes, and never been on the road. I am all set with the T5 transmission, with a lot of help from Lugnutz. Now I need help with the remainder of the swap and options.
Question 1, are all third members a direct fit with 1947 thru 1962 housings. I would like to reuse my new components including the 3:55 ring and pinion into an open drive line. and lastly I am flying out OK in a few weeks to pick up a 1953 3100, I can load the bed with all sugestions.

Again
Thank You
Red

The third members will fit the housings but the ring-gear & pinion will not interchange.

does that mean that the entire open driveline third member 55-62 will work "with" the 55-62 gears? What about the axle shafts?

Have you investigated where your RPM will be in 5th gear (overdrive) with 3.55 rear end gears and the tire height you plan on using?

The 55-62 open driveline center section will bolt into the torque tube banjo housing, but the pivoting spring mounts must be made rigid at the proper pinion flange angle in some way. Welding usually doesn't work well because of the rubber bushings involved. It's a lot simpler to weld new spring mount pads onto the axle tubes in the correct location after figuring out the proper pinion angle.
