I'm using the light duty reducer that looks like a block of (asbestos?) with a wire on each end. No issues soldering in, my question is mounting. I'd figure to encase it in shrink wrap- that ok? Or do I just protect the leads, & it doesn't matter what the body of the reducer touches? Thanks in advance Rick voltage reducer | | | | | Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 4,501 Moderator, Electrical Bay | | Moderator, Electrical Bay Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 4,501 | Hi Rick, A lot of electrons have been sacrificed here to discuss that topic. That is just a common resistor. I would not encase it in anything but I would protect the leads and try to have the resistor not touch anything. Hopefully it won't (given the small current draw of your fuel gauge) but that type of resistor is likely to get hot in operation, so you don't want anything to insulate nor hold heat in. Good luck!
