Does anyone know some history on the Chevrolet 1958-1959 LCF trucks? I have not been able to find much info on them, doesn't seem like there are many left out there. Anything on production numbers? Also, what motors and tranny would have come stock in a 1959 L50 LCF Viking? Are these trucks rare? I may have an opportunity to buy one with a fifth wheel hitch, short wheel base, but it is rough, however, the body is ok. Looks like it has air hoses for trailers, however the motor is not in it anymore. Any info or thoughts would be great! Thanks!

Oldfarmall,

The 1959 50 Series trucks came standard with a 283 2v and had the 283 4v as an option. The 70 Series had the 283 4v standard and the 348 as optional and the 90 Series was only available with the 348.

The 50 Series was available with a Chevrolet SM-420 4-speed or the New Process 540C 5-speed or the Powermatic 6-speed Automatic. The 70 Series used the same as the 50 Series but added the Clark 267V 5-speed. The 90 Series used a Spicer 3152 5-speed or Spicer 3152A 5-speed or the Powermatic.

The brakes on a 50 Series could have been hydraulic with 7" or 9-1/2" Hydrovac or Air Over Hydraulic. The 70 & 90 Series trucks could have had the 9-1/2" hydrovac or Air Over Hydraulic or Full-Air.

The cab on the 59 LCF is the same as the 58, but different than the 55 (one year cab) and 56/57.

Thanks for all the info mike! These trucks seem to be very rare. I am still working on acquiring the 59 viking 50 series truck. Any idea on value of the LCF trucks? Thanks!

Also, thank you Spanky, the website you gave me is awsome! The LCF big bolts are very neat and unique. Any other info from big bolters is welcome. Thanks!
