breezy, Below are some snapshots form Chevs of the 40s website showing their descriptions of those two different rear engine mounts. From reading those descriptions, it appears the left pictured mount in your post should be for your 3/4 ton (3600) truck. The right hand one seems to be identified as for the 1/2 ton (3100) trucks.
I am away from my parts books so can't get into them for more info. Others should be along to chime in here to confirm or refute my info.

Those mounts go between the bell housing and frame cross member, not connected directly to the transmissions. I believe the difference lies with the bell housings and cross member mounts. Below are screenshots from the 1948-51 Shop Manual and 1954 Shop Manual that show the two different mount designs.
Can you post a picture of your bell housing at the mount points as that should help clear up which style mounts you need?

Don't have a picture but I can tell you it will bolt on the side and mounting surface is straight up and down. It isn't angled like the 54 up. Those both look very similar. I just can't tell if the triangle looking one is angled or not.
Yes, your bell housing should be vertical where the motor mounts bolt on. I believe the crossmembers are the same over the years, although may have changed a bit when the flat top beds changed the rear hump height. The crossmember where they bolt on should be angled (not horizontal). Two bolts go into the bell housing and one through the crossmember. My motor mounts ('51 3100) should be the same as yours, but they're not accessible right not or I could post some measurements. I don't think it matters whether the sides of the mount are sloped or not, as long as the bolt holes line up.

From my experience, the transmission support crossmember in the 3100 is the same as the 3600. The transmission support in my 3600 was cracked, so I used one from a 3100 donor, and it was an exact fit.
That said, my’50 3600 had the trans mounts that breezy shows on the pic on the right, not the left. I’m wondering if the two are interchangeable? If, so, what is the real difference between them?

It looks like just two different style mounts and either should work as long as the bolt patterns match.
This is just my guess but it looks like the style mount on the right with the tapered sides, should the rubber delaminated, the tapered sides would contain it, avoiding a catastrophic failure.

I just went through this with my 47 GMC. What came out of it was the one pictured on the right in the first post. I had ordered new mounts and what I received was the one pictured on the left in the first post. They were not interchangeable on my truck. They both bolt to the bell housing fine. The difference was the length of the bottom side and how far away it came from the bell housing. My cross member angles up as it gets closer to the frame rails. The new mounts I was sent were longer on that bottom edge and hit the incline angle of the cross member. This did not allow the mount to sit down flush like it should. I was able to send them back for a refund. I needed the style in the second picture which I will try to attach here. Mine is a 1/2T GMC and different year so no guarantees my info applies, YMMV.

Thanks Jimmy. Working on truck now so I will just have to see what I have under all the crud. Looks like I have the triangle shaped ones Thanks for all the responses
