I replace the little diaphragm but it doesn't seem to last. It works fine for a few drives and then acts like the choke is stuck. I replaced it and its good for a short while. It does pull it off eventually. Any ideas? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,982 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,982 | The choke "pull-off" vacuum diaphragm is not supposed to open the choke completely, it is supposed to pull the choke plate open a small amount once the engine starts. The choke thermostat has the job of slowly opening the choke plate to a wide-open position based on the thermostat temperature. I would research and test the choke thermostat. Is the diaphragm being damaged by gasoline or backfiring?

Restore the old parts if possible or look for NOS stuff.

You don't necessarily have to use the exact part- - - -a choke unloader is pretty generic, and lots of them will work with a little tweaking of the mounting hardware. "NORS" (new old replacement stock) would be another option- - - -parts made by non-GM manufacturers from the same time frame would also be a good choice.
