On my 1941 Chevy pickup, model AK, I have replaced the original 216 engine with a late model 235 engine.
I am planning on keeping the original transmission and rear axle. What is the largest clutch / 139 tooth flywheel combination that I can use? Where can I find and buy this combination?

There is an extremely scarce 139 tooth flywheel that was used on spray-oiler 235 engines, that used an 11 inch clutch. It uses a pressure plate with nine attaching bolts. Finding one to rebuild will be approximately like locating a chicken with lips. Unless you're planning on hauling a huge overload on a big rig, it's not worth the effort to get an extra half inch of diameter over the standard clutch and pressure plate.

hi CuzzFuzz,
assuming the later model 235 will accept the same flywheel as an early 235 i suggest you call Turners auto wrecking in Fresno, they likely have the standard 9 bolt clutch and flywheel assembly out of any 3/4 or 1 ton truck from about 1940-53 years.
the trucks shipped with a 10-3/4 inch disc, that's what the parts books all reference and that's what my tape measure shows on all the ones i have pulled to date.
it will be the same flywheel and clutch for all engines.

I measure the flywheel and pressure plate in my 1 tons (50-53 years) and the assembly seems to be oversized just enough that if you did find the full 11 inch disc it should just fit wall to wall perfect. but i have never tried to actually fit the slightly larger 11 inch disc yet.

flywheel 0.666
42-53 3705387 9 bolt for 3/4 and 1 ton
plate 0.863
38-53 3836009 9 bolt for 3/4 and 1 ton
cover 0.861
38-53 3836007 9 bolt for 3/4 and 1 ton 13-1/16 OD
0.886 DISC, with facing, Clutch
50-53 3/4, 1, 1 1/2 TON 10 3/4 hub painted gray 3835453
46-53 woven 10 3/4 hub painted yellow 3835454

JimCarter truck parts sells the 10-3/4 inch clutch MEE257 for about $78, the filling station also sells the same one but for a bit more.

image of the typical 9 bolt clutch attached,
if you were closer to me i would just give you a whole assembly flywheel and clutch, i have a dozen of these on my farm.
best of luck.

Thanks for all the information. It’s too bad I didn’t live closer.
