This seems like a great forum and I am excited to join!
I just bought a 1946 2-ton dump and I would like to share some pics. I need to figure out how to do that.
Anyway, I need to get this beast on the road. I have worked on cars my whole life, but unfortunately am too busy right now to do the work myself. Soooo, does anyone know of a good truck mechanic familiar with old iron in Los Angeles who might be able to help me out? Or, as an alternative, do any local Stovebolters want to earn a little $ on the side?
The truck was running but would mysteriously die out when I was test driving it. It does not want to start at the moment. The carb was recently rebuilt. I think it is something minor (prob. electrical), but I do not have the time to troubleshoot it right now.
Finally, I would like to have the brakes gone through (at least one bad wheel cylinder at the moment).
Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you all.
Sincerely, j

If this truck has been sitting for any length of time at all, I'd check for plugged fuel lines/filters/carb and clean the gas tank. The gas these days is so lousy, you cannot believe the mess it makes in a tank as soon as it gets even a little old. Even if your carb was rebuilt, it could be plugged again, if you ran some crud into it from out of the tank. Or the line itself or the pickup tube in the tank could be plugged. This happened to me. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 | Welcome, and ditto on what Rich said. MNine wasn't all that bad, so I put a sediment bowl under the tank and a filter higher up, and that's working for me. 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe

If you'd like to share some pics and a story, you can go to the Gallery link at the top of the page and there are instructions there for submitting your pictures. If you have a ton of them and will be adding a lot more, a free site like Flikr (from Yahoo), Photobucket, and a host of others will give you an online place to store them. I'm using Flikr and it seems to be working fine.
Can't wait to see the pics and congrats on the truck. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 12 | Thanks for the replies, guys. I will check into the bad fuel possibility.
I have added (I think) a link to some pics of the truck in my signature. I will be coming to you guys with a bunch of questions in the future and I appreciate the input I have already received.
Now I just need to get this beast on the road.
