Hi all, we have a 1953 3100 and we are replacing all wheel cylinders and brake shoes and the master cylinder. Also replacing lines as required. New master cylinder also. Ran into this problem, when removing wheel cylinder on right rear it had a brake line block installed to the cylinder with a bolt and then the axle brake line connected to it.Went to left rear and different type of wheel cylinder was installed without a brakeline block.
Installed the right rear with the brake line block on it. So now I need to find out where to purchase a brake line block for the left side. I would think that one should be installed on the left rear also. One other problem is the old master cylinder had 2 ports; one for the left front line and other is for the remainder of the brake system. New master cylinder only has one port. So it looks that I need a block to attach to master cylinder with two ports. Hope all you fellow stovebolters can point me where I might purchase the needed parts or possibly a work around. Went to three auto parts stores and got 2 blank looks and one after checking his computer said can not find anything. Thanks in advance for help and guaidance. Dave

I would strongly recommend picking up a Factory Assembly Manual (FAM) so you can see how it was originally assembled.

That said, are you going for all original? If not, you can get tees, blocks, and couplers at your favorite hotrod shop (Summit/Speedway/etc).

Dave, unless you replaced some of the line in the past you really should replace them all. They can look new on the outside, but be rusty on the inside. Brakes are not an area to only do half way...replace it all, steel and rubber!

You are right Mike about rusty brake lines. I only have a couple more to replace. Yes we are keeping truck close to original so it will not be a hot rod. Thanks for the info Dave

Dave, You can get the correct 1/2 ton Brake Line Block your missing under Jim Carter Part# MEE245. You will also need the correct style bolt and washers available from the Filling Station under Part# SA-310.

Jim Carter lists a brake block bolt, but the descriptions states for 1936-50, so not sure that it will fit your '53.

Others should be along soon to add info about the master cylinder and brake line routing to help resolve that predicament. The topic has been recently discussed, so you may find something helpful using the Search the Site link to find recent discussions. wink
