For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 271 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 271 | I've searched and cannot find the answer. Have a 57 235 to replace 216 in a 50 Chevrolet. I have to use the 50 bell housing. Will the 235 parts work? I will be going 12 volt. Seems all I information I find use the 6 volt starters and 50 clutch assembly. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 | Either way will work- - - -just be sure the flywheel and starter match up. 6V starter- - - -139 tooth flywheel. 12V starter- - - -168 tooth flywheel. Both of them bolt on the same way and work with either bell housing. Jerry

Just keep the engine well tuned so you don't have to spend a lot of time cranking before it starts. Jerry

Those ole parts are getting hard to find. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,836 | That's why I modify these old stovebolt engines to use newer parts such as connecting rods, pistons, bearings, cylinder sleeves, valves, etc. from Nissan, Toyota, Buick, Opel, Ford, and late model Chevy V8s. An engine doesn't know, or care what the original application of a specific part was- - - -all it has to do is fit and work "as designed". Jerry.
