I've searched and cannot find the answer. Have a 57 235 to replace 216 in a 50 Chevrolet. I have to use the 50 bell housing. Will the 235 parts work? I will be going 12 volt. Seems all I information I find use the 6 volt starters and 50 clutch assembly.

Either way will work- - - -just be sure the flywheel and starter match up. 6V starter- - - -139 tooth flywheel. 12V starter- - - -168 tooth flywheel. Both of them bolt on the same way and work with either bell housing.

6V starters work just fine on 12 volts. Just keep the engine well tuned so you don't have to spend a lot of time cranking before it starts.

Well I have all the 12 volt stuff so I'm going that way. Those ole parts are getting hard to find.

That's why I modify these old stovebolt engines to use newer parts such as connecting rods, pistons, bearings, cylinder sleeves, valves, etc. from Nissan, Toyota, Buick, Opel, Ford, and late model Chevy V8s. An engine doesn't know, or care what the original application of a specific part was- - - -all it has to do is fit and work "as designed".
