i am about to buy my first bigbolt truck......either the one in my sig, or a guy at works....

the one from the guy i work with is the same but a 60 series, has a 327, a 2spd rear end, dumping flatbed and says it runs and looks pretty good......and its half the price.

the other one is a 4spd 292 non dumping flat bed and a 50 series. and in really good shape but needs paint and has been sitting since 1974

i figure even if i have to put 5 or 6 hundred buck into the C60 i would still be ahead......and have a dumping flatbed

how will a 327 pull compared to a 292?

2spd is it worth it? i will restore the truck and use it to haul hay and just drive to school everyonce in a while.

the C60 can be driven home he says......

the C50 runs......

any thoughts??

Hy dt466man, personally I'd go with the 327 dumper, but that's just me.

Welcome,

If you plan to work the truck you will want the two speed.
With a name like "dt466man" I expected you to want to swap an IH 6 cylinder diesel in a truck.
If you do plan to do that then get the truck with the best body, and the most common rear axle with an available faster ratio you can swap.

Many people swap diesels in trucks and don't plan out the rest of the drive train and gear ratios first, don't be one of those. They are left with an extremely slow and almost useless truck.

Should help if you start to swap things.

na i want to keep the 327.......first smallblock. i'm a ford boy but i love the look of the old chevy trucks.....and parts for the smallblock are cheap. we have a 86 with a 366 we pull a D6 dozer with. i want to put some hedders on it, 4bbl and let her scream. i just want to use it around the house and farm but restore it and take it to shows.

will the 327 move the truck decently? 65% of the time will be empty. just driving it cause i like the big trucks every now ant then

ya i had to swap my F250 from 4.56's to 3.55's to make it decent on the road with no od.

so is a C60 much more of a truck than a C50? what are the differances?

C-60 should have about 24,000 to 26,000 lbs GVW
C-50 should be about 19,500 lbs. GVW

door tag should give the GVW
2 spd is real handy with loads.

torque might go down some with headers and a 4bbl.,
and as you know, that's what gets and keeps you moving

ya i know about that, with the right 4bbl and intake, headers and cam, torque should go up at a given rpm. peak may move higher up in the rpm range, but if it it tuned properly you should not lose any......

the c50 i looked at in my sig said 17,500..........i am leaning towards the C60.

i'm waiting to go look at it.
