I *know* we have several new 'Bolters right here in St. Mary's County. One of you is even within walking distance of Stovebolt HQ.
I think we should have a meet and greet kinda thing to break up the "Dark Ages" of winter and meet some folks new to the hobby or at least new to our web site.
We can discuss specific dates, but it would be a morning thing (coffee and donuts) at the "OR" -- the epicenter of past ODSS mayhem and knowledge sharing -- my shop at 41370 Friendship Ct., Mechanicsville, MD 20659. Conditions permitting, drive your Stovebolt. Otherwise, just come however.
I'm thinking Saturday, Feb 10. 0900 to whenever. Backup date would be the following Saturday.
Sundays would work just as well.
The OR currently has two patients -- Peggy's 1927 Capitol 1-ton and Joe-Joe's '69 Chevy long bed 1/2-ton. Two VERY different trucks undergoing frame-off restos so plenty to lean on, look at, work on, etc.
Not a huge event, just trying to get some of the local usual suspects out to meet some of our new joins.
I hope our new guys (both have Art Deco trucks, oddly enough) can come out to meet us.
NoVA, NoMD and SoPA boys -- you're welcome, of course. But I'm not expecting you to come long distance for some donuts and coffee. Chuck, PG and Calvert county members -- y'all are welcome. I guess.
Sounds like a plan?
Directions:
For the old timers -- Use Eugene's driveway, not the farm driveway. Park on the west side of the OR (Hambone's parking area ). Please don't block either the road in front of the OR or the driveways.
For new timers -- Take Friendship School Road (either from RT 5 or from Leonardtown via Maypole) to Friendship Ct. Once on Friendship Ct, turn right at the 3rd mailbox on the right (look for the chainsaw bars and the "Stauffer Bros and Sons" Logging/Produce sign). Follow it straight up the hill. The OR will be the first building you come to (on the right). Be aware that the property is part of a larger working Old Order Mennonite farm so there may be a fair amount of horse-drawn vehicle activity in the immediate area. Please be respectful and don't take pictures.
Well??

Heard from Fannin. He's got some questions with cold start / starter / tune-up questions. His post is over in Engine Shop if you want to help him out there. He's hoping to make to the M&G.
Edit by Peggy Sun 2/4: As you can see below, the starter question in Engines had some side-chat going on so I moved those posts over here. It's good to see that Fannin may be joining in next weekend. Or ... we join him! Time will tell.

Fear not Kyle, I believe the ODSS boys will get a kick out of helping out. That's why their events alway involve wrenching. Even the get together this month is at the OR.

Maybe we should just get Sweet (our inhouse tuning expert) to join us and meet at Fannin's instead of at the OR ...
I have a sneaking suspicion that the fix for this is something simple ... we just need to go to the truck, see first hand and apply our collective experience to it. We've figured out harder stuff than this....
Fannin -- ask us about Buddy -- the truck we started and drove out of the swamp ...

The OR (meeting site) is in Oakville, about half mile from RT 235 off Friendship School Rd. Stovebolt HQ campus is in Historic Downtown Compton (Rosebank area).

I work at the St. Marys County Public Schools DSS building in Loveville. Can't be that far from there at all. Might try to get my truck running for this but the weather may not be that great.
If I can find the durn place, I'd like to come, plz. I'll have to find it first. It's funny; I can find my way around wide open spaces like AZ and NM, dense forests and jungles like SE Asia and Central and South America and deserts in the Middle East but most of the roads here in MD have me ALL turned around an upside down. Maybe my age? Anyway, I would like to come over. 0900 - ? 2/10/2024 41370 Friendship Ct Mechanicsville, MD 20659

Stewart, Here's the Mapquest map for the OR -- John says you've been there before. It's our old Christmas Tree farm. The front field is now horse pasture. The shops and pole barn are still there - close to the house. John says a bunch of the greenhouses are going up. It's beginning to look a lot like spring. And it's suppose to be sunny and 60s on Saturday.

Thank you, Peggy. Yes, I have been there a couple of times. So, I'll see you all there.

Hey Phil! Once the boys return, I think you'll like the looks of the OR and especially the *new look* of Calvin, the 27!! Me thinks they'll be a good bit of story to come from this Meet 'n Greet. John said this morning, this is a bit like how Homecoming started way back when.
