| | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,760 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,760 | The Chevy engineers thought it was needed in 1950 when they started using hydraulic lifters in the 235 spray-oiler engines in cars equipped with Powerglide transmissions. Creating a little leakage through the lifter to purge trapped air has been done on every engine since then, no matter what the manufacturer. Yes, I have done it, but not on a stovebolt Chevy, since nobody could chase me fast enough to give me a set of hydraulic lifters for a stovebolt engine.
