What you want is the Factory Assembly Manual (or FAM). It has the diagrams of how the assembmies go together.

Rock Auto has the service manual and the parts manual as well as a parts interchange manual. You might find an assembly manual on ebay. They come up from time to time

superav, Fibonachu and Otto have provided some good tips on what you need and some of the ways to find these resources. I would add that this Outstanding Resource Page is where you can access almost all of the publications to find the pictures/diagrams to help with your reassembly. Many thanks to Keith Hardy and his supporters for putting it together and making it free for any of us to use.

There isn't a link to a Factory Assembly Manual (FAM) that covers your truck, but if you can't find something in one of the linked resource books on Keith's site, post a specific question in the most on topic forum in "The Shop Area". Fellow Bolters will be glad to offer/share their knowledge and pictures to answer questions you get stumped on!

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you, and maybe some pics of your truck??? grin

You guys do realize that you are pointing his GMC question towards Chevy answers, right?

I know there aren't many (any?) differences in sheet metal, but the engine portion of a service manual would be way different.

The picture attached is from the GMC Master Parts Book covering the front sheet metal of his truck. It is no FAM, but it will at least show him what parts he needs.

That page is from the 1939-1953 GMC Master Parts Book. I bought my .PDF copy from fellow 'Bolter SlimSix who had scanned his manual in almost 20 years ago. I think he is still selling .PDF copies of this and other GMC manuals. He was in 2022. Send him a PM and ask.

Andy (SlimSix) was last seen posting here at Barry Week's Passing Lane thread. He was a great help to Kathy as you can see from the subsequent posts there. An all around good guy (see his signature line wink ), I agree with Bill, he'd be a good person to contact. Check his profile for his contact info. (Drop down under his name will get you to his profile.)
