The GMC and Chevrolet parts have different part numbers, but I am trying to figure out if they are functionally different. I know that the GMC controls had white knobs and the Chevrolet had black knobs. The catalogs list the GMC handles as billet parts and the Chevrolet as cast, but it is not clear to me if that was the only original difference or not. I need to get a new temp handle for my '58. If I can't find an original, I am looking at getting the billet GMC part if it will work because I would expect it to be more durable than the cast part long-term.

Anyone know anything?

They are functionally different in 2 places that I know of..

1. The fan speed switch of one of them (GMC I think, but it has probably been 25+ years since I was in there) has a step in the lever while the other fan switch does not.

2. One of the GMC vertically moving levers (again, I can't remember which one) moves the cable in the opposite direction of the Chevy.

Ok, starting with that info I realized that I had been looking at incorrectly labelled parts. I was looking at people selling Chevy switches with white knobs as GMC, but the GMC switch is noticeably different.

To answer my original question, the temp lever on the Chevrolet pulls the cable up and the GMC pulls the cable down. They shapes are meaninfully different and they are not interchangeable.

Thank you Bill.
