Can anyone tell me the thickness of the two washers on either side of the universal joint ball oil seal on a 1946 torque tube? The parts book says these are 2 11/32" OD but does not give thickness. This is the seal at the rear of the universal joint ball.

Since the gland nut is threaded, the thickness of the washers does not matter. They are only there to sandwich the rubberized cork seal between them and squeeze it down onto the tube. The idea is to make the seal tight enough to prevent leaks without restricting the sliding movement of the tube as the rear springs flex.

100% agree with Jerry's comment about the purpose of the washer. thumbs_up

FWIW, A search through GM Partswiki for GM# 595013, Washer - universal joint ball seal came back in all available Chevy and GMC parts books in that database listed as 2-11/32" OD X 1/16" for all applications.
