I'm wondering if anyone has fabricated their own spare tire carrier for a 41-46 vintage pickup. If so, do you have any drawings or pictures you could share?

I will check through my documents and make sure I have posted everything that I have. As for manufacturing one, i have not found anybody that has done so. You can use a later model truck under bed carrier with some creativity. I have an extra slider but those are relatively easy to find. The hard part to find is the actual carrier that holds the tire to the bottom of the bed.
If you are looking for a carrier that attaches to the side of the bed (not original but looks cool), there was a guy a few years ago manufacturing a really nice one but he stopped a few years back. Maybe if you check with Chevy's of the 40's or Carter they may be able to point you in the right direction. I'll dig through my paperwork this afternoon while watching the Packer win another game.

Sorry guys, I didn't think waiting over a week for some kind of response was being impatient.
Thanks Tim for your thoughtful response. I've previously looked at the drawing on your web site and it was helpful. As my message indicated, I was wondering if anyone has fabricated their own carrier, as I know the originals are very hard to find. I would be interested in pics or drawings of an owner-fabricated carrier for either the under bed style or the side of bed style.

Hi summerfi...I have some drawings of both the 1/2 & 3/4 ton carriers...I am having the 3/4 ton being built from a local fab shop...if you still need pics and drawnings please let me know.
If you want I can take pics of the one I have laying on my garage floor as its from the 3/4 ton I bought for parts, as I only wanted fenders and guy made me a deal I could not pass u for the truck minus cab,,
1946 Chevy 1/2 T pickup driver side mount spare tire carrier. After a recent no spare situation, decided to fix the barn door after the horses had already escaped and put on a driver side mount tire carrier. I'll buy or build it no problem. So I'm trying to figure out what I'm exactly gonna build. After looking at all the pictures I can find of similar models, it APPEARS that:
1. That most are mounted on the drivers side (those on the P side have a fender indent needed for the tire to clear the gas tank filler). 2. There is NOT an indent in the driver side rear fender for the tire 3. The tire is raised above and not "on" the floorboard.
Anybody know counter to the above? Also if anyone has any insight on what the pickup box sidewall reinforcing is like for the carrier, it would be appreciated. It is fairly thin.

If you want to reconsider a underbed hoist mount let me know, was an easy install, I did a post on in July on it but darn if I can’t locate it . Pm me if you want more info᠁.
Hank, I couldn't find your post either. If it was in reply to one of the Swap Meet ads from that far back it most likely got removed along with the rest of the ad thread. Sorry! That being said, your picture goes great with this earlier thread on the topic of a spare tire lift.
If you still have the details squirreled away, maybe you could post them again in this thread to add to the info?
