Hey Folks ! I need to find some brake shoe return springs for the rear of my 51, 6400. Does anyone know of a cross reference part or source for originals ? Thanks !

Thanks believe that one is for the front. I need the rear springs. They are short fat ones. I’ve been trying springs off other trucks from the parts store but can’t find anything strong enough.
Place an ad in the Parts Wanted section, I think we had a member that had a batch made a couple years ago, maybe he still has a few. Or maybe someone has a couple used ones.
Boise- did you find your springs? I had some made when I did the brakes on my 59 1-1/2 ton several years ago. Still have some if you need them.
Mike. You say to 57, but wouldn’t 58/59 be the same?

Give me a minute-or two- and I’ll post the specs so we know what we’re talking about-or at least going through the motions 🤓

So, this is what I have, and only have 3 new ones left (and the 4 I removed from magic bus).
I’ll try to find the place that made them and post it again. I know it’s been a while since the last time I did.
Old one on left and new one on right.

I just checked the GMC parts book. Same thing where these parts are used on 55.2-57, but not 58-9.
The "TXY" are years 57, 56 and 55.2. The "4" is how many. The "22M, H110" and so on are the various axles these brakes were used on, followed by a description.

I sent my old spring to Timac and they asked how many I wanted. I ordered 10: used 4, gave 3 away and have the remaining 3 if someone wants them.
It’s been over a decade, but here is the info I have.

Thanks for posting a picture of the 1958/59 rear brake pull back springs. This confirms they are different than the 1951/57 springs, see attached pictures of springs I took off of a 1956 4400.
Thanks Mike. All good to know. But if someone can’t find a spring, I recommend checking out Timac.

Mike and Victor, Thank you both for the pictures and information I just measured mine and I can see that whoever was into the rear brakes ( which are new ) put the short springs both on top shoe and the longer ones both on the bottom shoe. So mystery is solved, Victor thaanks for the information on who made yours I'll look into that . Pic of my long ones, it would be nice to have some new spares .
