I have a line on a 65 C20 for sale, was really wanting a C10 but this truck is a real descent truck, 100% original, complete & running/driving. Is there a ring & pinion or center section swap to have a more highway friendly ride or would it have to be a whole axle swap? Also what were the gear choices in the C20's? It also has the 16" split rims, are there a particular set of 8 lugs I should be looking for? I dont want to go real wide. Thanks

Once you know what rear end it has you can order what you need to bring it down. Might need to buy a center section but I would think you could get down to a 3.73 easily.

Wheels are easy. 8.lug with a standard offset. Actually any of the big 3 wheels will fit I think.

The 4.10 center section that was used behind automatic transmissions is a direct swap into the Chevy corporate housing. Those gears are not being produced new by anyone, and OEM is extremely scarce and pricey. The usual ratio for a stick shift C20 is a 4.56. There's a Dana type 60 8 lug rear that was used by GMC that's also pretty scarce, but there are all sorts of aftermarket ratios available for that one. I've got one of them under a 59 Suburban with a 3.73 gearset for a Ford, in a GMC housing.

Thanks for the replies. "Hotrod Lincoln" just spoke to a guy today who has one of the 4.10 center sections available, I'll have to see tomorrow what he'll want for it. On a side note I have a friend who has a Brownie OD auxiliary box available, that could be an interesting alternative.

If you don't want it at that price, I'll be glad to come and get it! Be sure to give him a big wet kiss when you pick it up! Can you post a pic of the Brownie? I might want to make an offer on that, if it's the right size for a medium duty truck.

I ended up with both, gotta get em while the gettin's good. The aux box is a Spicer 3spd, OD/Direct/UD, about the size of an SM420. Not sure how to post photos.
