I noticed the 1948 trucks only have the single cylinder on the rear brakes. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad. It has the parking brake on the shoes and not on the drive shaft. Also, when I picked up the truck I missed seeing the backing plate had a chunk missing. I have put a posting in the parts wanted and have one possible lead. Is there a good place on the internet that searchs for parts in salvage yards? Or does anyone in the Pacific Northwest know of one that has old truck parts in the area?
You can have a look see on the link below of the plate.

I have a complete 48 2 ton rear, two speed, for sale, it makes some noise when coasting, but should be good for brake parts.
email me if interested.

Hey guys, I have a lead on a plate about 45 minutes from home. Going to look this weekend perhaps. I'll let you know how it works out.

A freind of mine that rebuilt an old truck for his business says it's a vertible candy store for off the wall parts.

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

Well I went to visit 3B today. He had a museum of old stovebolts and GMCs along with some really odd ball pieces, a 1950 British fire truck and a German car that looked like a small Corvair. He had the backing plate I needed and even took it off the axle for me. I am sure I am going to be emailing him questions. What a great person to have so close, only about an hour away. I got my hub off and found the drum in pretty good shape. However all the linkage, and the wheel cylinder need to be cleaned up and redone.
