welcome to the shop DLyne, there are folks here that can fill you in on that

try some searches , there was a thread that covered it well - they were made by Chev in Canada, which is where most trucks sent to you folks came from - the only real difference is in the badging, so you should be able to visually identify the year comparing it to Chev trucks .... the 1600 was maybe a 2 ton, equivilent to the US 6100

Hy DLyne, I'm going to have to disagree with Red, Maple Leafs after 1939 have more in common with G.M.C.s than they do with Chevrolets. Only the badges say Chevrolet, after 1939 they were G.M.C. powered and had G.M.C.s motor wheels. There production started in the early 30s and finished in 1950, I have four of them a 37, a 43, a 46, and a 50. They are Canadian production, I believe a 1600 would be a 2 ton. What body style is your truck?

DLyne,

It looks like the 1600 Maple Leaf might have been a 2-ton truck.

Here is a link with a little information:

your website link was incredible, but now i am a bit more confused, as because of the windows in the doors, i have been told its a 51, this was apparently the first year they wer brought out. and in 52 they had push button door handles. witch in the history of Chev on your link this also confirmed. however, it also said that in 48 they moved the gear stick to the steering wheel and the hand brake to a foot brake pedal. well, i have a floor mounted gear and brake handle. so does that make it pre 48? also it said that in 50 or 51 the tank was moved inside the cab, however my tank is mounted to the side of the chassis. is the mapleleaf just different in options to the chev? in the 48 sales brochure, it shoes one IDENTICAL to mine, but does that still make it a 48? PLEASE help.

Hy DLyne, Maple Leafs were only large trucks 2 ton and larger, so they never had column shifters, and I've never seen one with a foot operated parking brake either. No 47 trucks had in cab fuel tanks that I'm aware of, Maple Leaf production stopped in 1950 according to my refference material, so no Maple leaf would have vent windows, hope that helps.

I like the right hand drive trucks!

Gross vehicle weight:

1500 * 13,000 - 14,500 pounds

1600 * 13,000 - 15,000 pounds

1700 * 13,000 - 16,000 pounds

I have a parts book that only shows the condensed version of the trucks. The book shows a 1950 Chevrolet and a 1951-1953 GMC. From what I can see is that you have a 1951 or later truck. I cannot tell from the pictures if it has the push button handles (1952/53) or the lever type (1951) Do you have the body tag or is it missing? What are the engine casting numbers, this may help you identify the year if it is the original engine. Is your speedometer in KPH or MPH? I it is MPH it should be 80 MPH for the 51 and 90 MPH for a 52/53 if the Mapleleafs followed the american standards. The four speed has always been a floor shift and the emergency brake is the correct one for the big bolt.

I managed to make out the plates i think.

STYLE No 51/5211B
BODY No 259
TRIM No 2-195
PAINT No 253-15915
TOP ACC 7

That was the only plate readable. i hope this can help. Also, i found a brochure of a mapleleaf on the net, it was 48 and it had window vents to, so did they just maybee have it different to the Chevs? i dont know much about it

in regards to your spedo question gmoniz, it goes to 80 MPH, also on another thread, i found a serial number calculater, and when i put mine in it came up as 51. the only thing then was it said it cam from Kansas City MO, is that in Canada? and then if mapleleafs production stopped in 50 so no vent windows like 3B suggested, is mine maybee a Chav with the wrong badges? its wheel base is 161 inches if i havnt already written that.

The plant would have been in Kansas, Missouri (mid west USA) I can't help you with the maple leaf question. But it's safe to say that if everything is original and no exchange of body parts, you have a 1951. I have not seen a body tag like yours on a USA made truck pre-1956. That's it for my knowledge on big bolts. Good luck

By the way, i think there are a few other bolters in your area, maybe check the directory or pin the map for more details.
