Does anyone have dimentions for a late 80s early 90s P-30 particularly the front axle width?

I used to work on those all the time. Some have coil spring front ends & some had straight axles.The light duty coil spring models used the same parts as the C30 models. I dont have any around anymore to measure anything.

I narrowed one from a 94 Chevy 3500 about 10" to fit my 52 1 ton.

I have a late 70's IFS P-30 out back I could measure if that would help at all. I've no idea if its any where near close to the later ones.

I'm thinking about using the axles and Cummins 4bt on a 1950 2 ton GMC 350.

Sounds like good idea to me.
The axle is about 8" to wide for the 1.5 and 2 ton trucks. They can be narrowed, but it is a little bit of work.

Will the spindle assemblies from the P-30 fit the original axle?

Also, is there a larger factory wheel that will fit the P-30 hub? The stock P-30 wheel and tire look like they will be swimming in the wheel well. Kind of like the big U-Haul trucks with the tiny wheels and tires.

The spindles can be made to fit the original axle, but it involves about as much work and welding on the axle as just narrowing the p30. I have some pictures of one done like that, but I would not reccomed that method. The p30 axle is much heaver looking than the original, so I feel it has a larger factor of safety even after being modified than the original. I feel that if the original were modified it's factor of safety would go down, and that's not good.

The wheels available new for the 10 lug on 7.25" bolt circle with 5.25 center hole are 6x19.5 and 6.75x19.5. The largest easy to get tire is 8R19.5 at about 32" tall. There is one taller 19.5 tire, I forget the size, but it is a 2?5??x19.5, I don't know if it is narrow enough to fit on even the 6.75" wheel, but I suspect it will, and that tire is about 36" if I remember correctly.

22.5" wheels can be found to fit the p30 axle. I have a set from a 57 Chevy 1.5 ton. As far as I know they were only made for about 3 years, and only on the 1.5 tons. They are out there, and with some looking you can find a set. A good tire choice is 9R22.5 at about 38" tall. I have some pictures of these 22.5 wheels and 8X22.5 tires on my picture link.

There is always the 20" wheels your truck came with, they fit too.
