A friend, Navy Pilot Veteran, subsequent ship engineer, just suggested I should use the above mentioned Methyl Salicylate, for loosening rusted parts. Also known as Oil of Wintergreen, he said it would attack a steel pin corroded into an aluminum casting.

Has anybody got experience with this stuff?
