The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts 1956 Chevy serial number

I do understand reading the trucks serial number but there is a number at the top of the tag that I'm not sure about what it means, that number is as follows SCC 56 then underneath that number is 197. Any idea's? I did lighten the picture to better show the tag

Just looking at the picture, my first thought is that is a much later added stamping that may have been used by some state inspection authority to verify/certify the original data plate, maybe if there was an issue with an error on a title.

My thinking is the "SCC" would indicate whatever jurisdiction did the inspection, the "56" confirming the plate/vehicle year and the "1 97" may indicate the month (January) and year (1997) when it was inspected/confirmed.

Any history on the truck beyond your currently provided info (I peeked at your other posts)???

Could also be from a Fleet Owner as the ID number they used for maintenance...

It might be as they do appear to be light stamps, what is interesting is the letters and numbers certainly look like they match the serial number script... I may never know . The state did add some of their own stamped tags that carry the unit designation number and also painted on the roof.

MikeB you were pretty close, hard to say unless someone else in Wisconsin with a bb has a similar stamping on their tag. See above pictures
