One of my favorite interior mods. Mounting a bicycle water bottle cage to an “L” bracket which is mounted to the bottom side of the dash.
Very easy, very useful.

I've been meaning to make some cup holders for my 49 using exhaust pipe, I made one for my lawnmower that way so I know it works. I think it's the 2.5" pipe that takes a water bottle or a pop can nicely. Can always place some foam around the inside if it's too loose, but I haven't found that.
I'd also though of frenching them into the doors, even in the access panel for the lower hinge plate - but ... too many other projects on the go and I've not gotten to that yet.

I have used a big roll of duct tape on the bench seat. I have since upgraded it to a big roll of aluminum furnace duct tape. Blinged it out, as the kids say. I get a lot of comments about my "chromed out" cup holder.

I avoid the problem by prohibiting eating and drinking in my vehicles.

I am with Otto but from time to time I get the cheap special at Taco Bell which includes a drink a large drink. Which I did Wed. of this week. So try to shift gears in traffic and then grab back on the cup all the way home. I have after-market Buick Lesabre seats with an armrest and cup holders but the holes are made for bottles, not large plastic cups. If I did it on a regular basis I might try one of your solutions.

Really isn't a problem, especially for me since I'm normally the only one in the truck and I love drinking my coffee while driving. Never consider eating.

I saved a set of sketchy pistons from a rebuild last year with the intention of cutting the wristpins out and turning the skirts into cupholders.
Great idea, I have several sets lying around I was going to recycle. I'll measure them up. Would make for an interesting cupholder for sure.
