I need someone with expertise to help me on this one as it doesn’t seem to be in the 1937 shop manual …which direction should the springs should go on these window regulators. First picture or second picture? I expected it to be self-explanatory when I refurbished them, but it appears that the springs can go on either direction it’s just a matter of which direction the tension is meant to be. Thanks in advance.

Figure out which way makes the window go up. The spring is there to help it go up. Install it so it's pushing the arm upward. It should still have some tension in it with the regulator cranked all the way up
If you had taken a picture of the spring before you removed it, the question would have been answered. I have lots of pictures, but unfortunately not of a 37 window regulator.

Thanks Kevin, I’m always careful and take pictures when disassembling but they were missing with pieces found in the bottom of the doors, but if I’m understanding what you’re saying, roll the regulator to the up position, install the spring and when it is in the down position it will be under tension with the coil of the spring compressed (not spread).

Correct! It'll be easier to install with the regulator cranked to the up position.

This seems to work with tension on the down position and tension released on the up position. (Pic #2) Flip the spring and it has tension in the up position (pic #1 which is incorrect) Thanks again.
