I have a 63 C60 with the typical brake issues with the booster under the cab, but finding a replacement booster is proving to be fruitless. My local NAPA and another local business say they can send mine out to be rebuilt, but with a two month turn around and no guarantees that they will have all the parts needed. I'm considering a build to move a more modern vacuum booster and master cylinder to the fire wall. Does anyone have any info on this being done before? If so, what master cylinder was used?

You would need to start looking at 2-ton trucks in the junk yards to find something that would work for you.

Do you know your existing Hydrovac is not working? Is there a tag with a model number on the Hydrovac?

Master cylinders can be sleeved and rebuilt to better than new (look up White Post Restorations).

BP,

I have been making a conversion kit to run 15" disc and a modern vacuum boosted master for over ten years. I will finally have parts back in stock to send out more kits in about 4 weeks. Total cost with you providing the off the shelf parts ( calipers, rotors, master and booster, etc. ) is about $3,000-3,500.

And.... I didn't catch that the truck was in the 60's. I think however that my kit would likely fit on the hubs. Let me know when you get it apart and we can check some things.

I got my hydrovac for my 59 rebuilt by cardone through rock auto. The rest of the system might not work still but the hydrovac does!

RDomeck are your kits provided with different spindles, or adapter plates to use the existing ones? I've found a 14.7" medium duty truck disc brake rotor that I believe could be made to work, it's 6 bolt like my current hubs. So, once I had rotors attached then it'd be a matter of adapting some large caliper to it, finding one with the right number and diameter of pistons to make the brake balance work OK. I'm OK with leaving my current, all brand new, Hydrovac system intact because it works fine.

Tronman, My kits use your original spindles. You just remove your baking plate and bolt on the caliper bracket. The drum comes off of the hub and you mount my rotor adapter to your hub, then bolt the rotor on. It is a very clean and simple process and one that can be put back to original if you ever wanted to.

That sounds like a go! Do you offer just the brackets or only as a complete kit? I've seen one aaftermarket option that the catalog says fits my C60, likely because it has the lighter duty 5,000lb axle, but I think it's for a C10 so likely not big enough rotor diameter. I'd rather have a large rotor that never gets very hot and lasts forever versus one that's too small and burns up/warps. I've got some access to local machine shop talent meaning I could have a rotor turned or drilled as needed for the hub pilot and bolt holes to line up. Plus I like a challenge and I'm not in a hurry for this because the current brakes at least work.

I have 1948 2 speed rear. Think it’s 10 lug. Just getting started. I don’t know if my drums will be good. The back are supposed to be 15” and the front are 14”. It sounds like you have rotor for a replacement. Do you have more information.

Hey guys, It sounds like I need to do a proper for sale add for the disc brake kits. I used to have a good thread on the old SB server, but that didn't make it to the new server a few years ago.
