I’m trying to adjust my hood. It is high at the cowl, and it is too close in at the lower trailing corners. I want to start by adjusting those trailing corners outward using longer shoulder bolts. (They thread into the original hood fittings.)
Can someone please tell me what diameter and thread those fasteners are? I’m having a devil of a time trying to match them.

You really shouldn't use any other bolts that the original dimension shoulder bolts. I am not sure what is the exact issue you are having, but whatever it is, changing from original shoulder bolts is not going to help. I am not sure what kind of bolts you started with. I need a whole lot more information as to exactly what your problem is. I see in your picture that you have the hood spring on. That needs to be off while adjusting the hood. You also need to install the rubber seal to cowl in order to adjust the hood. There is a Tech Tip for the entire hood adjustment procedure. I hear tell from a lot of folks that it is pretty easy to follow. It's located at the top of the Paint and Body Shop Forum page. Click on Tech Tips---- Paint and Body. It's called AD Front Clip Alignment procedure.

Waveski - as 52 Carl said - you will want to install the cowl to hood seal before you make any adjustments.

Actually, after reading the tech tip I now have the hood removed. My hood sits high and narrow. The tip instructed that the key to adjusting that is the centerpiece that bridges the two transverse hood frame members. Removing the fasteners and adding spacers under the outboard ends of that centerpiece is supposed to “wing” the flanks outward and draw the center down. My tape measure says that the adjustment has been effective. The hood is still belly up. Tomorrow is proof day when I roll the hood upright and re-install.
Notes: - All 6 machine screws sheared off. I had to drill them out and re-tap. (1/4 x 20 ) - (Sacrilege Warning!!!) Torque head screws might have been the latest and greatest in the 50’s , but I hate ‘em. I really do. - Grabbing that heavy sheet metal from the small front end and leveraging it up off the truck single handed is not good for the lower back. - Getting stabbed in the gut by the beak of a ‘55 Bel Aire jet bird hood ornament made the above task extra painful.
As I said , tomorrow will tell.
