I need to replace the master cylinder in my 1949 3100 and while I got the two bolts out that holds it and disconnected the main brake line from it, I can't figure out how the front part comes off so any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Front part? There's the piston rod that's attached to the pedal linkage with a pin held in place by a cotter pin or clevis pin. Pull out the cotter pin and the retaining pin (about 1/4" dia) will slide out, relasing the piston rod.

Here's the end of the piston rod that attaches to the pedal linkage.
Make sure to install the jam nuts in the same position on the new rod as they were on the old rod so you don't have to fool around with the adjustment when you're done. This assumes that your original MC rod was adjusted correctly, If the brakes were working and pedal height and travel seemed right, don't mess with it.
I don't have a good picture of the pin but you can see it in the last two photos. The cotter pin can be seen sticking out of it.

Otto I can't get a picture of my set up but mine doesn't have that pin on the end of the piston rod. It has a spring attached to it and I don't know how to detach it.
The piston rod should be attached to the brake pedal linkage the same way as mine. It has to be a rigid connection or it won't work. A spring only wouldn't do the job.
Can you photograph it with your phone and text it?
