I have an 18" scratch on my fender that doesn't look quite as bad as the attached photo. I'm wondering if I can rub it out with some compound without dulling my paint. If so, any suggestions? It's several coats of urethane without clearcoat. Thanks

That should polish out unless it's down to the primer. Use a mild polishing compound, and the gloss should still be good. Start real easy to see how it goes. I polished out a scratch in some clearcoat, but don't recall what compound I used (it was borrowed along with the polisher.)

Can you feel it with your fingernail? It looks more like a scuff from some non-metallic object like plastic or wood.
