Take two this weekend. Tack coat went down ok. Second coat my scale didn't scale when I started adding tint so the color was way too heavy. Third coat I had correct amount of tint but not enough product to do everything. Couple areas tried to fish eye and ball. Out of a fit or rage I loaded area with product and it didn't allow the fish eye or balling. Had a couple runs, but once I get a good handle on this stuff I am going to like it. Parts are good enough to store away while I move onto cab and bed.
So I am coming up on full cure for this epoxy paint. I am told I can clear coat for UV protection.
There is a weird oily residue that pushes out of the epoxy? Says on the can to wash of with mild soap. I have used glass cleaner on a few areas, but it comes back for quite a while. This will be fine as I am months away from assembly and clear coat.
I am just curious what it might be if any paint experts are out there.
Ok so here is my 2 cents, ( and I’m no expert on paint but I have painted a few projects) you got me close with the brand or supplier. Looking at the pictures you posted the paint has a gloss to it, that makes me think it’s a single stage paint. Most two stage paints that would be base and clear coat happen in a lot closer time window. So on two the new question degassing is the solvent in the paint is leaving the paint in the curing process. Some or Most single stage paint can be cut and buffed just like a clear coat. My Bronco that I painted with Deltron single stage 30 years ago has never been cut and buffed, just compounded and waxed ever couple of years and the paint still is a 20 footer. So I would do more research before clear coating.
In speaking with supplier it will need UV protection or it will need to be cut like you say. Thats why I figure I will clear, but that is next spring or summer. Should have enough time to do tis thing.
