So I'm gathering parts for this swap bit am confused on the release bearing. I'm using the jeep shaft cut down so no adapter is necessary. I would like to replace release bearing. The original at flaps is $60. Which is fine but the one I found for 55-70s is only $18 what is the difference? Do I need the long or short version. Thanks for any advice.

Well, those are good questions. I used a T5 out of a van, no adapter plate, didn't shorten the input shaft and I had to use the short version. There was no way the long one could be used. And even though I was fine with the short one, I had to make a different linkage rod out of 5/16" steel rod. The original rod was too long and it didn't allow the linkage to be adjusted. After I made a shorter one, all was Jake. In the image below you can see the rod I made and the threaded adjustment linkage rod...and also the original linkage. Good luck.

Thanks Jon. I'm hoping I didn't screw up by cutting my input shaft down and also bearing retainer. Was following instructions from lugnutz65? But he was working on a 65. I don't have a place to tear my old one apart and leave it without getting it back together and out of my work bay.

You're probably okay. Some input shafts are a bit too long but mine was fine without cutting it. I did have to find a clutch disk with the odd spline count, however. The main problem I encountered was the linkage. It just wasn't made for that short throwout bearing and geometry got the best of me until I made a new rod. Since then I've run into a couple of other guys who had to do the same thing. As I recall one guy just cut his old one apart, shortened it, made a collar out of a piece of steel hollow rod and welded that together. Would have been a lot less time than the cutting and bending I did.

The TO brg depends on what pressure plate you are using. The older style had the fingers straight inside the cover. It uses the long brg. The latter style has the fingers curved up & outside of the cover. It uses the short brg.
